This is a guess but I have seen commit/rollback and journaling as the issue
for many SQL update failures. You might want to have a look at some of those
parameters. Is the file journaled on the AS/400.

Hi David,

I ensured that all that you have mentioned is done.
But I still get errors that the invalid operation on
file (SQL7008) when I try doing insert using JDBC.
 I team mate put in Translaction isolation in the Java
code and it worked WHEREAS the same code ran on our
machine without any coding associated to transaction
isolation.
