In client/server configurations you can also use the Toolbox driver
(com.ibm.as400.access.AS400JDBCDriver). The Toolbox allows you to access
AS/400 resources (including database data via JDBC or record-level database
access) from a Java program running on a client. That client can be
running 32-bit Windows (95, 98, NT 4, 2000), AIX, Linux, Solaris, OS/2,
another AS/400, ...

Subject:  JAVA/JDBC newbie question

I have seen the following code and would like to know what it does:

Class.forName("COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver");

The documentation says it "enables Java to find the driver classes for
handling JDBC objects."

Specifically, what does the "Class.forName" do?

Thanks for your help.
