Both the Native JDBC driver and the Toolbox JDBC driver do support the use
of lobs.  Note that lobs are new to the 400 via a v4r4 PTF.  JDBC 2.0 is
required to use LOBs directly.  JDBC 2.0 is a part of JDK 1.2.  JDK 1.2 was
also added to v4r4 by PTF.

Look at VARCHAR, CLOB and BLOB data types in the InfoCenter.

The link below (in the InfoCenter) gives the SQL command syntax for
creating
a table (file).

I haven't used them, but it appears that there is support for them using
the
JDBC drivers as well.
