It sounds like he's been reading about WebSphere. It is in the pipeline according to IBM's sales people, and is powerful. However it isn't a casual exercise. The ramp-up looks to me to be a year at least. One element is the new price of $300 for the programming tools. That is a powerful statement of direction imho. _______________________ Booth Martin Booth@MartinVT.com http://www.MartinVT.com _______________________ Pascal Bellerose <pascal.bellerose@progisys.com> Sent by: owner-java400-l@midrange.com 06/16/2000 07:53 AM Please respond to JAVA400-L To: "'JAVA400-L@midrange.com'" <JAVA400-L@midrange.com> cc: Subject: Converting programs Hello everyone ! Here's the problem : I have an application running on an AS400e using RPG400, CL, CMD programs which are using DSPF and PRTF. Now my boss wants the whole application to be cross-platform. Now since I know that IBM has increased considerably the performances of Java language on their OS400, it's the language I planned to use for the application. Then my boss talked to me about some tools that would do the conversion from RPG400 to ILE RPG then to VARPG and to VAJ. I've been looking for this tool at IBM's website, and their partner's too but still can't find it. My question is simple : Is there a way to do what I mentionned in the preceding paragraph or is it an idea that comes directly from Utopia? By the way if there are suggestions on tools to use as a source code converting agent, please send them !!! Hope you'll understand my problem !! Thank you all Pascal Bellerose Progisys inc.
