  • Subject: AS/400 Performance/Memory Analysis with respect to executing JAVA code
  • From: "Thoveson, Mark L" <mark.thoveson@xxxxxxx>

I've been using AS/400s for a fair amount of time but I'm certainly no
expert on AS/400 performance analysis, I'm familiar with the basic
activities and tools (Commands) one would use to watch and evaluate jobs
while they execute. I have used the typical things like WRKACTJOB,
WRKSYSSTS and DSPACCGRP in the past. I'm currently attempting to evaluate
the memory requirements associated with an AS/400 "Java Server Process" that
I will soon be moving into a production configuration. This process support
clients requests that are being placed via RMI. I have isolated the
execution of the "Java Server Process" in a separate memory pool by
associating the job with a subsystem that is assigned it's own memory pool.
I was hoping to be able to put the process under some controlled measure of
stress and see what the active threads did incrementally to the memory being
allocated or used by the process. To date, I have been at a loss to
determine what I need to do to see this type of detail. If anyone has
advise I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks
Mark Thoveson
