Joe,

I had a similar situation.  When I ran the application from a PC, it worked
OK.  When I ran it from the AS/400, I needed to create the journal.  Don't
know why though.  I do agree that there are situations where journaling is
not necessary.  In my case, I was just building a temporary table with the
Java app so that I could read it with a CGI easier.  The table was always
going to be recreated, so there really wasn't any point in journaling it.

I use jounalling frequently and am a big proponent of it. OTOH,
there are plenty of situations where journalling is just not
necessary. What I don't understand about this particular
situation is that I am using another file the exact same way
that is also not journaled and everything works fine. Why would
it matter for one file and not another?
