You can use SEU ... but it's not a fun time.

Although I'm just now getting into JAVA (on the 400 or not), I recommend you write and debug your programs on a PC (using a IDE like VisualAge Java, Visual Cafe, or JBuilder).  Once you've got your program running the way you want it, transfer the objects (jar, zip, or class) to the 400 and execute them there.
