In theory it is easy to do. You create your java program, move the .class over to the AS/400 and then run it. But you left out a lot of information. Assuming that you have Java on your AS/400, and you realize that none of the GUI classes will work, then it is not to difficult. With out knowing what you are wanting to do, I can tell you this you can write a "HelloWorld" program using "System.out.println" in VAJ. Then copy the generated .class file to the AS/400. Sign on to the AS/400 type STRQSH. Then type "cd <folder>", replacing <folder> with the name of the folder you put your HelloWorld pgm in and then execute like you would on your PC in dos. Type "Java HelloWorld" and you should have the first step accomplished. The next step is what killed me, and that is setting up the classpaths correctly, but worry about that later. Let us know if you get stuck. -----Original Message----- From: owner-java400-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-java400-l@midrange.com]On Behalf Of mtanveer@friedmancorp.com Sent: Monday, January 03, 2000 2:51 PM To: JAVA400-L@midrange.com Subject: RE: Servlets / Classpath how can i make a java program in Visual Age for Java on PC and then put it on my AS/400 directory and run it from their. Thanks -----Original Message----- From: owner-java400-l@midrange.com [mailto:owner-java400-l@midrange.com]On Behalf Of dawall@us.ibm.com Sent: Monday, January 03, 2000 1:38 PM To: JAVA400-L@midrange.com Subject: RE: Servlets / Classpath I feel like I am jumping into the middle of this thread without knowing all of the background so I am sorry if I repeat what someone has already posted. From the last couple of appends I think there are two key points: 1) Environment variable identifiers are case sensitive. There is a chance you set the "classpath" environment variable. That isn't what you want. You want to set the "CLASSPATH" environment variable since the JVM looks for classpath in all uppercase. In fact, you can have multiple environment variable that differ only in case. From a green screen do "addenvvar classpath abc" and "addenvvar CLASSPATH abc", then do wrkenvvar. You will see two environment variables. Assuming the Toolbox LP is installed on your AS/400, setting "CLASSPATH" should fix up QSHELL. Note -- you can also set classpath in QSHELL using the export command. Once in qshell, enter export CLASSPATH=/path1/path2:/path1/x.jar The path separator is the forward slash and the element separator is the colon. CLASSPATH must be uppercase 2) Number 1 should help you in qshell and the Java command, but it does you no good in WebSphere. WebSphere doesn't use the classpath environment variable. To change classpath in WebSphere, edit jvm.properties (WebSphere 1.x) or bootstrap.properties (WebSphere 2.x). And we are still using WebSphere 1.1. I tried Classpath: /QIBM/ProdData/HTTP/Public/jt400/lib/jt400.jar then /QIBM/ProdData/HTTP/Public/jt400/lib/jt400.zip and I still got AS400JDBCDriver not found. I know that there is something basic that I am missing but I can not figure it out, hopefully letting you know the release might help.
