I happily use IBM's VisualAge for Java and se the AS/400 Toolbox's JDBC drivers to connect to the database. Under such a model, the code is pretty portable. Not sure why IBM packages JBuilder demos with AS/400 stuff, when they have their own competing IDE. Anyway, the VAJ IDE has some really nice debugging features, and I use it to debug servlets as well.
