There is excellent support within AS/400 for IFS through APIs etc. You can easily use OLE DB to run commands, programs ... on the AS/400. The result sets and stream data can be made available to the OLE DB client. Choosing between OLE DB and JAVA Tool box? Life long question. What is your ultimate goal? How much MONEY you have right now and for maintenance? Is your solution very dynamic ? Is it a throw away application in a year? Decision is very difficult, but has to be made right now for business solutions. At the same time, IBM seems to expand JAVA toolbox classes as time goes on whereas IBM does not seem do that to OLE DB (or COM) anymore. So I am thinking about future also...
