  • Subject: Re: Loading JDBC Drivers onto the AS/400

Can you provide any additional information? Where is your Java program
running? If on an AS/400, is the data on the same AS/400?

Many companies provide JDBC drivers. For the AS/400, IBM ships two -- one
that comes with the AS/400's JVM and one that comes with the AS/400 Toolbox
for Java. The one that comes with the Toolbox is a "client/server" type of
driver. It runs on a client that has a TCP/IP connection to the AS/400.
It uses existing servers on the AS/400 to access data. Since it uses
existing servers, Java is not required on the AS/400. Since the Toolbox is
pure Java, the client can be any machine with a JVM (OS/2, Win 95/98/NT,
AIX, Solaris, AS/400, ...).
