I'm still using Mickeysoft's Visual J++, despite the fact it uses Java 1.0, cos it's got a lovely IDL and the debugger is nice. (Using the built-in Java debugger is agonising, to say the least.) And it's free with the _Learn Visual J++_ book that Mickeysoft Press have published. The book is OK, but I went back to Cornell & Horstmann's _Core Java_ straight away.
