No..your assumption is not correct. You can use EGL to generate COBOL to
create 5250 based applications, called batch applications, and pure
"batch" applications. So, you can build applications that use JSF front
ends to use the called batch applications as well as create 5250 programs
that can run standalone or utilize the same called batch programs the web
UIs are using.

In addition the generated COBOL can do both SQL and file based i/o
(serial, indexed, relative records) depending on your needs.
