Nothing major. The biggest stumbling block for most customers is not
having option 11 of the JVM installed. The real issue is the time it
takes to get it ordered. Make sure the Java group is reapplied after it
is installed. The only other thing is making sure you have the one hotfix
for DAOS on 8.5.1 that keeps the catalog resynchronized (if you're
planning to use DAOS, which I highly recommend!). Otherwise it should be
smooth sailing. If you're on V5R4, the program conversion during
installation can be anywhere from 20 minutes to 2-3+ hours depending on
your hardware.
I had a customer do this exact installation (7.0.3 -> 8.5.1) this past
weekend and it went extremely smoothly. As with every upgrade, if the
planning and preparation work is done, the actual upgrade is seamless.
Hope this helps.

I'm looking to upgrade from 7.0.3 to 8.5.1. Any issues to be aware of? We
know of a few minor applications changes that need to be made. We will be
upgrading our DVP server to do some testing so we are not hitting
production right away....
