Panic Crashes after enabling Transaction Logging and doing backup

I've enabled Transaction logging (circular) and DAOS on 8.5.1 -- iSeries
running V5R4.

We do a full weekly save each week of the entire iSeries --- I shut Domino
down during the backup (when it's backing up typical iSeries libraries)
--- and then start Domino just about when the backup stream is done.

Since I turned on Transaction logging (last week), I've had Panic Crashes
on Domino when it restarts. I have removed the data/logdir from the
backup. Today, the backup did not pickup the logs (which I thought was
good) --- but the server still did a Panic Crash - pointing to the
transactional logs.

Is this a problem with using Circular instead of Archived? Other issues
which could cause this?
