You will need to run another compact -c to compress the current documents.
Indirect file is just a text list of databases - one per line:

mail/abc.nsf
mail/bob.nsf
....

It goes in data directory and commands like compact refer to it that way. If
your ind files are in a subdirectory, then it would be load compact
indfiles/file.ind -a

using Single Copy Template also? This could cause it to seem to get

Also, when you run your compact -c to enable ODS48 and implement the
compression, you may want to do this:

compact -v -n -ZU -c

-v = enable body compression, -n = enable design compression, -ZU = enable
LZ1 "

Chris - I just checked the mail8.ntf (the only one is use) and the
compression was not enabled so I checked it to enable it. All my databases
are at ODS48 (I did that during/shortly after the upgrade to 801) and the
design compression and LZ1 are already enabled (probably carried over from
the template). I'll let the compact -B run this weekend to do the body
compression.

"Or just create a view with a single column containing just the mail file
path and then export it to a text file and make it an ind file, etc...
Then run compact -a maila-d.ind" I'm not familiar with ind files. Where
would the ind file reside so that the compact command would find it? In
the main domino server directory?

Rob: "Too bad the compact doesn't allow wild cards. like mail/a*." That's
exactly what I was wondering... Thanks for clarifying. Sound like Chris's
ind file may be an alternative. "Then on 8.5 DAOS kicks butt." I hope to
go to 8.5 early next year after we get new hardware.
