In addition to enabling the compression options, don't just run compact -c,
but do compact -ZU -c. The -ZU will compress the attachments into LZ1 and
LZ1 is also recommended for DAOS, so you'll be ready for that.

If you don't want to enable the options via Advanced Properties, you can try
running: load compact -ZU -n -v -C

The -n turns on design compression and -v turns on body compression.
Although, you may want to be aware of this possibility:

Rob, I believe the LZ1 setting only affects attachments, and only
attachments created after it is set. It won't go though everything and
re-compresses them with the new compression method.

Sorry, you're right. Just hate to question Kim Greene. But, hey, we all
get typo's sometime.

That helped
05/13/2009 16:57:34 Compacted archive/a_jpelfrey.nsf, 115968K bytes
recovered (5%)

now trying with LZ1 compression...
load compact -c archive/a_jpelfrey.nsf
05/13/2009 17:03:50 Compacted archive/a_jpelfrey.nsf, 0K bytes
recovered (0%)
That didn't buy me anything...
