using the -b option with compact recovers unused space without reducing
the file size(default I believe, but could be mistaken)

using the -B option with compact will enable in-place compact with file
size reduction.

Look at Admin help under compact, compact options.

I had a huge file, smency.nsf. Over 6gb. No replication or save
conflicts. Went into the ifs and it's size was 6,625,165,312. Or 6.6GB.
So I tried this:

load compact smd/smency.nsf

08/21/2008 13:44:50 Compacting smd/smency.nsf (ScanMail Update Database)
08/21/2008 13:45:13 Compacted smd/smency.nsf, 0K bytes recovered (0%)
08/21/2008 13:45:13 Database compactor process shutdown

So now I am thinking that didn't do much. However, I check it out again
in the ifs and the size is now 109,576,192. Which sure seems greater than

a less than 1% drop to me. Definitely should be more than "0K bytes
recovered". Was lightning fast though, 23 seconds.
