Open your Administrator client and go to Server tab, then Status tab, then click Server Tasks. Sort by Tasks and then look for the Indexer tasks and the Directory Indexer tasks. If the Indexer task(s) is using CPU but there is not an entry listed for "Updating views in xxx database" or "Updating xx.nsf view (viewname)", then I believe it means the task is busy updating the Domino Directory index. For example, I have 4 Indexer (UPDATE) tasks running. 3 of them are updating mail database views and the 4th is "Idle" but is using 1.4% CPU. That one appears to be updating the Domino Directory (from my understanding...) You can do TELL UPDATE QUIT to end it (it could be in a loop). Then do a LOAD UPDATE once for each UPDATE task you need to start. Only once if you just have one running.
