Rob, Yes it is and I wonder why people think I am bipolar...... The web access is a good thing but I worry that it will be hard to cover all functions in a manual way. That was why I was thinking of some sort of code analyzer... There is a fee but we do own some licensing on the Domino Utility Server so that we can serve applications to our overseas counterparts. My boss is knee deep in that so I stay away from it. Ignorance is actually very blissful...... In our situation about 80% of Saint-Gobain world wide uses this other platform. There are planning on consolidating different email servers to one per country. And they have already inked a world wide maintenance contract for which we pay a good portion of. It does cover other products. But this is why we want to look at eliminating the Notes client. We can save some money and reduce some complexities. I'm sure you will hear my sarcasm more as this moves along....for example as part of the change since they can't justify the network bandwidth nor do they want to buy a large enough server there will be changing our attachment limit from 5 MB down to 1MB with rumblings that they want to eliminate all attachements......I wonder if they liked that iSeries Notesbench mark I forwarded to them..... rob@xxxxxxxxx 01/14/2005 11:08 To AM Lotus Domino on the iSeries / AS400 <domino400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc Please respond to Lotus Domino on Subject the iSeries / Re: Notes applications to Domino - AS400 ie: client to web <domino400@midran ge.com> Love that sarcasm in your first sentence. Must be tough to rectify that with your signature. Hope the cost of the move is less than the cost of the license fees. I was going to suggest just accessing your Notes applications via a browser instead of a client. This should show you those that are client specific. Question: Do you still have to pay client charges on these applications even if they use a browser to access them? Is it based on whether they log in or not? Isn't there a license fee with the "more virus friendly platform"? We have a number of older Notes applications that were written to the client. Anything new has been written to the web. With the change we want to attempt to eliminate the Notes client maintenance charges and issues revolving around apps that send object links. Is there any automated tool that can: 1.) Analyze applications for issues - lotus script, etc. 2.) Help automate the conversion. Some of these apps are small but we have about 25 or so that need to be reviewed and changed. I'm not directly involved but it seems wasteful to have to spend a lot of manual time chasing these issues and in some cases changing them.....
