I actually think I got lucky with the client PC's -- they were already installed properly with the correct mode to use roaming. I believe there is a restriction, requiring them to be installed in "multi-user" mode. Since I didn't have to fight it, I can't tell you for certain. I think I just did a standard install and everything worked -- but we might have picked something special because of the classroom that I'm not remembering. Sorry I can't give you the specifics on that. I did see comments that you don't want to do this or it won't work for users needing the Designer or Admin clients, only standard clients. I didn't test it, so I can't verify that, either. I just configured our classroom to use it. The roaming is based on the MS id -- when Student01 logs into the PC and starts Notes, then Student01's personal address book and bookmark file is replicated to the workstation. If someone who is set up for roaming logs into the system for the first time, they run through a little configuration so the workstation can identify them and their roaming server, etc. I went ahead and logged in as each of my student profiles on each of my machines so that none of them would have to do the configuration when they next have a class, but I wouldn't have had to do that. The configuration was very easy -- logging in 12 times on each of 12 PCs was the only drag... It sounds like the roaming might be good for you... Does this allow the client to then be tied in to their MS id? When it logs in then knows to use certain local address books, desktops, etc? That might be an option. Would it matter one whit if, out of the 12 it was broke down into 3 groups, with one group on one PC; or if all 12 should have access to all three PC's? I would think that if they needed access to all three PC's, that would involve some replication, etc. Rob Berendt -- "All creatures will make merry... under pain of death." -Ming the Merciless (Flash Gordon) Chris Whisonant <Chris.Whisonant@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: domino400-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx 01/19/2004 11:36 AM Please respond to Lotus Domino on the iSeries / AS400 <domino400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To Lotus Domino on the iSeries / AS400 <domino400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc Fax to Subject Re: Which client to use I think that someone coming from an Outlook environment may do better with iNotes. I wouldn't recommend the Web Client (have you used it? it's "clunky" to quote people from my company), but I'm sure it's last on your list as well. Roaming users would provide a solution to the NAB problem. You could also look at installing the Notes Client for multiple users and this could also address the NAB problem if you didn't want to set up Roaming (which isn't too difficult). Our situation. We have a small group of clients we are doing their outsourcing for. One is a Montesorri school. One of their groups has 12 people using 3 PC's. Traditionally we used multiple location documents - probably because that was what we were used to. They don't like this method because of the problems with everyone sharing a personal name and address book. Our alternatives include: Multiple location documents (current method) Roaming users Web client iNotes client Other significant situational facts: No purchased ap's Customized ap we are working on is designed to be web based. Three weeks ago these people used Outlook. All of their client PC's are loaded with Notes 6.0.3. Server is running Domino 6.0.3. What do you recommend?
