I believe the Smart Upgrade feature wasn't available with 6.0 so it won't
work with a 6.0 client.  Needs to be at a base level before it will work --
not sure specifically what that base level is though -- 6.0.1 or 6.0.2.
Doesn't necessarily address your specific problem, but hope this helps as
you troubleshoot.
