Character Input

Please respond to
Lotus Domino on the

Is there any way to set the maximum characters allowed for input on a
notes field? I know in html I can use the following code to accomplish
this on the web side: maxlength='# of characters"
I think I can do it with an input validation, but I think that would
still
allow the user to input over the max limit and return an error only
after
the user leaves that field. I am hoping to set the input size that would
be affect at the time of input.
Thanks
Herb
