It's not hard to set up.

Yes you can cluster between differing platforms. (Why would you want to?
:-) )

We have several iSeries running Domino. We bring the primary down every
night to do backup. We bring the secondary down during the day on
Thursdays to do a weekly save/rclstg/ipl. It's freaking amazing how
seamless this is! I bet there is no other iSeries High Availability
vendor who comes even close. On the primary we have 8 Domino partitions.
Each partition is in a separate cluster. On the secondary is a matching
partition.

Primary Secondary Cluster
NOTES01 NOTES02 NOTESCLUSTER
GDDATA GDDATA2 GDDATACLUSTER
...

I would read the standard Domino documentation, and the Domino for iSeries
documentation on doing this.

I don't know if there is a redbook dealing with an actual case study.

The toughest is making sure that if you create a database on the primary
that you remember to replicate it to the secondary. That is THE biggest
reason that we purchased the akornn software. 800+ users with any
turnover at all and the mail files alone are a maintenance headache.

Now, granted occasionally a file gets corrupted (and I have a long
standing pmr opened on this). But it sure is a lot easier to blast the
file on the primary and replicate it back over from the secondary than it
is to dig out the backup tapes. It takes an average of 3 hours to restore
a single mail file from tape. Of course, our Domino backup alone spans
onto the fourth 3590 tape (green button). We find ourselves rearranging
the ifs SAV to get the directory most likely to need restored done first.

Rob,

Sounds like you're doing Domino clustering. I have a couple of questions:

1. Can you cluster Domino servers on different platforms (i.e. OS/400 &
Windows 2K), or do they all have to be on the same platform?
2. Is it difficult to set up? Can I do it myself, or should I bring in
an
expert?
3. If it's not difficult to set up, where can I find documentation on
setting this up?

Thanks for the tip on the software. Just the ACL manager by itself would
probably be worth it.

Mike E.

Buy this package:
http://akornn.com/software

Works great, and I believe that it is absolutely essential if you want to
make sure files exist on multiple servers in a cluster environment.
