I think a call to Lotus support might be in order.  That should work based
on Domino 5 Admin help:

An alias maps multiple DNS names to a single IP address. This allows users
to enter different URLs to access a Web site -- for example, if you want
users to be able to enter either www.acme.com or acme.com to access the
Acme Web site. Entering an alias is also useful if you want to change the
DNS name for the Web site -- for example, if the company name changes but
you do not want to break links to the previous DNS name
