Add me to that crowd of AAS only. Although I'm only a few hours shy of a BS, it's never been a priority for me to finish it as I've never worked anywhere that required it or that paid any better because of having it. Other than to say "Whoopee...I now have the same piece of paper as aninexperienced 22 year old kid...", I personally have never seen the need to complete it. I always figured that 8 years in the Air Force Security Policeand 17+ years AS/400 programming experience said a lot more about my character and skills than a piece of paper that anyone can get. -----Original Message----- From: consult400-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:consult400-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of rob@xxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, January 23, 2006 2:06 PM To: Consulting on the iSeries / AS400 Subject: Re: [Consult400] ...many MANY jobs go unfilled....? Sorry to disagree Paul - but I don't think having specific requirementsinorder to be hired equates to "walking on water"......... Yes - the 90s were great. If you were in the I.T. field all you had todowas sign up. Companies spent untold billions in payroll hiring people just in case they were needed. Remember "stay on" bonuses? I do. Companies paid people TO NOT LEAVE. Unbelievable. Well now companies are a little more particular about what their salary dollars are paying for. I don't see anyything wrong with that. I am aware of 6 full time jobs that are open right now. Each havetheirown particular criteria - as in - they aren't simply hiring the firstpersonwho say "OK, I'll do it......." rather they are expecting certainbackgrounds. These requirments are not anything out of the ordinary. One job requires knowledge of web-based tools combined with AS400. One requires a BS degree AND ops background. Another position is expectingaspecific package (JDE) while the others are looking for thingsparticularto their needs. So to summarize - there are plenty of jobs out here. Some members of these lists are forever stuck in 2002. The costs theremakeopen heart surgery look simply like a bill for lunch at McDonalds. Are we allowed to discriminate against the young (not that I'madvocatingit)?
