Are you suggesting that the only changes were the replacement of 9 programmers? And that the result was a change from losses to profits?

May I add this? Sometimes a team gets fat, dumb and happy. Ford Motor is laying off 30,000 people and closing 10 plants. One of the reasons given is the abnormally high cost of an entrenched work force. Health care costs are becoming punitive unless a company has a young, never sick work force.

Is it a true statement that if salary and/or expenses have to be cut then how better to do that then with replacing experienced and more expensive citizens with less expensive, not experienced aliens? My last company laid of 9 programmers w/average tenure of 10 years, in favor of over seas folks...and we made $ last year. -----Original Message-----

Well said, John, but add this: Those three $25K programmers are energized. In 5 years they're going to be good, real good.

I'm not making a value judgment on whether this is good or bad, I'm just
stating that it is what it is. If your current salary is $75K and you
want to sustain it, ask yourself what are you doing that couldn't be
replicated by 3 off-shore workers that are happy to work for $25K?
Answer that question successfully (and lot's of people do), and you
won't need any government to "protect" your job.
