MULTIPLE LEVEL UNDO CAPABILITY! -----Original Message----- From: Reeve Fritchman [mailto:reeve@xxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Tuesday, February 18, 2003 4:43 PM To: 'CODE/400 Discussion & Support' Subject: RE: Why should I use CODE/400? Frank, you have to use it! For starters: I get (got) > 60 lines on my 21" display. You can have an unlimited number of members open. You can have the same member open multiple times and in multiple places. Multiple windows and ring manager (grouping source code logically). Source compare is much better. Better "new line" capabilities. You can use the "LIST" command (enable "Extras" first) to list database fields in your source. Program verify/compiles give you an error list at PC speed; double-click on an error and all errors are inserted into your source. You can compile with the (changed) source member open. You can page up/down at PC speed. CPO allows to you build lists of multiple members from multiple source files and multiple libraries. Color coding. On-line help. Indenting (for visualization). No "RPGFree"-style (yet and/or unfortunately) support. I still use SDA 'cause I haven't taken the time to tackle Designer. WDSCi will offer many more capabilities; V5R2 compilers support IFS source files and that should offer some cool new ways of doing things (I find I frequently need a 100-character comment field). As an example, you could build a project called "AR" and include all your AR members from all your source files in a single list. Then you could click on ARD001, ARR001, ARC001, ARM001, and ARR001PR to open all five members (yes, I know a little about your application). You'd make your changes, verify the programs by clicking on the "Verify" button, double-click on an error to get it inserted into the source, fix the source, compile the programs you want by clicking on the "Compile" button, and then click "Close ring"...and all members are closed. Think about doing this in PDM...the best alternative you have is XXM730 AR 001. XXM730 isn't bad for quick hits; when you're doing serious programming, CODE's the only way to go. Cons: IBM doesn't have enough developers working on the product, and most of the iSeries management hierarchy could care less about AD tools. There are a few bugs in the editing scripts for PF's (weird stuff regarding continued lines and capitalization). Some folks with wide experience don't think CODE is that great, but all I care about is how it works in my (ILE/RPG) environment.
