 >> Were you able to install CODE by itself, without all the rest of WDSC?

WDSc does not (sadly - and mistakenly in my opinion) provide this as an
option. However if you have enough room to install the whole thing - do
so - the version of Code that is shipped with it is a bit more stable (it
seems to me) than the previous one, plus verifier understands V5R2 and you
can launch Code the same way you've always done - AND - can launch it from
inside the workbench.

The other option in the workbench is to use the new java based lpex - this
is fine for a simple one line edit but all it currently has is color coding
and language sensitive tabbing - precious little else that you actually
want. The next version should have stronger internal lpex support - but
nowhere near good enough to throw out Code/400 - so keep your fingers
crossed that IBM don't do that.

The comms layer on WDSc is completely reworked and seems to be a lot more
stable and faster than Code's. There had to be some benefit to giving up
umpteen gigabytes of disk space!!

PS. A warning for those of you who haven't yet loaded WDSc. If you don't
have at least 256 Mb of memory - forgedaboutit! -it will drive you insane.
Also during install you will be convinced the system has hung - it hasn't
just go have lunch and it will eventually come to life. A similar thing
will happen the first time you hit help _in_ the workbench (as opposed to in
Code) - for some reason they decided to complete the install on fist touch -
grrrrr - the one time you need a five minute wait is when you want help in a
hurry right!
