Okay, regarding the web link you sent, if I go to the section regarding
"Problems with Help", I'm told to "use Windows Explorer to go to file
x:\install\help\helpyyy\helpTroubleshooting.htm,
where x is the drive letter, and yyy is your language code".
First of all, the file is found at
x:\install\helpyyy\helpTroubleshooting.htm,
so this is the first difference (trivial, I know).
Going to the helpTroubleshooting.htm document, I go through the following
path:
1.1 - I see that Code/400 uses the help system. Good.
1.2 - No special considerations apply to me. Good again.
1.3 - Section 1 - nothing happens. Okay, go to 2.0.
2.0 - Perform steps 1 through 3. I'm now at
C:\Program Files\IBM\VisualAge for Java\eab\bin
2.0.4 - Okay, it says to "first determine the name of the help directory
for the product (typically doc, help, or hlp) by finding the directory
containing .zip, .toc, and .htm files; then determine the name of the
product configuration file in that directory (typically a file with a .cfg
extension), then type: vahelp instance INSTALL_DIR\HELP_DIR\CONFIG_FILE open
index.htm ". I'm assuming that INSTALL_DIR should be "C:\Program
Files\IBM\VisualAge for Java" and HELP_DIR should be "DOC" because there are
.zip, .toc, and .htm files there. However, the CONFIG_FILE escapes me.
There is only one .cfg file in that directory - ivjhlp.cfg. If I key in the
command
vahelp instance "C:\Program Files\IBM\VisualAge for Java\doc\ivjhlp.cfg"
open index.htm
I get the help for VisualAge for Java. While it looks pretty, it's not what
I need. I can navigate the links there.
Checking for other .cfg files under "C:\Program Files\IBM\VisualAge for
Java\" yields
"C:\Program Files\IBM\VisualAge for Java\ide\project_resources\IBM WebSphere
Test Environment\com\ibm\ivj\jsp\ui\default.cfg" and
"C:\Program Files\IBM\VisualAge for Java\ide\project_resources\IBM WebSphere
Test Environment\jspem\hpj\com\ibm\ivj\jsp\ui\default.cfg" and
"C:\Program Files\IBM\VisualAge for Java\ide\project_resources\IBM WebSphere
Test Environment\properties\washlp.cfg"
I'm guessing that none of these .cfg files are really what I want?
So, that being accomplished, I move onto the next paragraph. "If help
launches successfully..." The key statement I see here is "for other
products, try uninstalling and reinstalling your product, as this sometimes
solves such problems."
This looks like that's where I am, eh? So. Welcome to Monday. April Fools
day. It's cold and snowing outside. Weather inside isn't much better.

David:
I don't know why you have problem getting the readme on the web.
Anyway, the section in readme is just showng you how to install that same
document you have been browsing on the web.
I just took a brief look thorugh it. Can you identify any one of the
symptoms that applies to you?

Hak -
The web page displayed by the link below doesn't have a link for
name="Install".
I went searching through the page, went to the link describing problems
with
Help and was instructed to display an HTML page on my CD. I did. It's the
same page found at the FTP link I used the first time. Back to square one.
I guess at this point, I'm stuck uninstalling NetQuestion and trying to
reinstall it, unless someone else has a good idea?
April Fools. Bah.

I reviewed the archives and found the document talking about how to
reconfigure help
(ftp://service.software.ibm.com/as400/products/ad/wdt400/helpsys_diag.html)
but it was written by IBM. I've tried all morning to decipher and use the
document to help me, but... well... I still can't get Help to work. Not
from CodeEdit nor from my Start menu.
I need some assistance getting help to work. Can someone point me to a
straight-forward document written for those of us with only a bachelor's
degree? (Not by a programmer - even though I am one...)
Thanks.
