RE: Officially frustrated with Code/400 and XP!

I have tried installing Code/400 on a pc with XP Professional.  The
instructions to use regedit enable you to get the load started, although
regedit is through a gui interface to add folders(?) instead of creating
directories with a command line.  That was a slight change from what I
expected.

However....  I have run into the same problems mentioned in other letters-

I installed the SDK, and let it be the default JRE.  Installed VAJ, then
WDT
from the DVD.  It still said I needed the SDK, and it still bombed at the
exact same spot.  When I went to Add/Remove Programs and 'added' Studio, it
installed the SDK again, and was kind enough to point out that the
directory
was already there...

I haven't yet investigated it to see what all is working after the botched
install and what isn't.  The two or three times I tried to do the install,
it has gone along the same path.

I presume that there is a regedit there.  Alan came up with this soluton
and I have not heard of anyone saying that it can't be done.  But, I must
hasten to add, I have not tried it myself....

past the hangups with Help and all"   I know how you feel, it is a "guy
thing" I'm told -- having hangups
asking for help that is :-).  If you are having problems getting the
install or help to go just ask and I'll see what assistance that I can dig
up.  We certainly want to know the nature of your difficulties so that we
can maybe do better in the next release.

Well thanks, Mike. Yep, it's "official"! ha ha. I don't know why if I try
to install it once and it doesn't work, why I think if I try it a few more
times it will!! ha ha. I think before I chuck it out the window I'll try
your suggestion. If it doesn't work, I'll be sure to give everyone my
address and let them know the "chucking time". It does work great for the
games though...

Hi Chris, as long as it's "official" that you are frustrated, I can't be
giving you this information if it not official you realize.

Here is what Alan Chao put on the code400 newsgroup in Oct. last year. I
have not tried it (don't have XP). Now, if you truly are going to toss
the new machine out the window let me know where and when and I'll be
there to catch it -- I'm sure that it would run Win98SE for games just
fine :-)

First of all, WDT 5.1 was released before XP is available.
The following is a set of instructions to guide you thru' installing WDT
5.1
onto XP, but please note that some functions of the product may not work
with XP.

Here are the instructions to install V5R1M0 on WinXP.
1. Set the registry key.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IBM\WDT400\Transient]
"InstallSrcpath"="G:"
Replace "G:" with where the source you install from(your CD drive
letter).

2. Run install\msisetup.exe (in CD1)
3. Run install\bin\v51setup.exe (in CD1)

Hi all,

I hope someone else has encountered this problem and has a work around for
it. I just bought a new PC with XP (XP Home). I'm trying to install the
entire Websphere Dev Tools for iSeries (V5.1) and I can't do it! Even
though
I AM a user with sys admin authority it tells me that I need to sign on
with
sys admin authority to install the product. Does anyone have any
suggestions
short of, "Throw it out the window and go back to your old PC!" :-)
