I see... Ok, I'll give that a try. I was a little confused, because I
thought that if the server I defined to connect to the 400 was not the same
as the strcode server, it wouldn't work. I'll give that a try. Thanks,
Vadim!

Chris

Hi Chris,

Here is what I think happening in your scenario (with a bit of CODE/400
history first):
STRCODE is an interactive CODE/400 server that you as a user are
required to start manually in a 5250 session. It has been around since
   early releases of the products
In some later release IBM has recognized that in many scenarios users do
not really need an interactive CODE/400 server. A new non-interactive
version of CODE/400 server has been put in place. I think after
installation you are asked a few questions and one of those beasts is
configured for you. Moreover, since it doesn't require an interactive
job, it even gets started for you automatically.
Most folks find the non-interactive server support is very convenient
since they don't need to worry about CODE/400 server at all.
BUT, when you actually require an interactive session (like in case of
debugging interactive applications) we have no choice but to ask you for
   one!
In this scenario we are asking you to start an interactive CODE/400
server so that we can use it as an interactive session to debug your
application. What I suspect is happening is your non-interactive
CODE/400 server is called ELBERT (the beauty is you don't even need know
that). Therefore, we won't let you call another CODE/400 server (even
though interactive this time) with the same name. Why don't you call it
something like ELBERTI or anything else that doesn't match the name of
   your interactive CODE/400 server.

Hope this helps,
Vadim Berestetsky

Hi all,

I am trying to use the debugger to obviously debug my program. When I try
to
go into it, it says that I need to start STRCODE. So, I go to my session
and
type STRCODE ELBERT (Elbert being the name of the server I've defined to
this machine in the comm console). When I type it in, it tells me that
ELBERT is already running and to start STRCODE with another name. First of
all, why is STRCODE running? And if it is running, why doesn't the debugger
recognize it? Also, if I do start STRCODE with another name, such as OS400,
will the debugger recognize it if I'm running under the ELBERT server? And
one last question.....how do I end the STRCODE on the 400? What's really
weird is that I don't even see the little server icon in the lower right
corner of my display. Could someone clear the fog for me a little,
pleeeeeaaase!

Thanks,

Chris
