FROM: FLAGLER KEENE Flagler, Rick: Manager, IT DATE: JUNE 28, 2000 SUBJECT: Code/400 in the OS/400 PASE environment - can do? Does anyone know if CODE/400 editor can be used to edit ascii text files used in the OS/400 PASE environment? PASE allows Unix applications to execute on AIX 4.3.3 inside the AS/400. Many of these Unix applications will access stream files from the IFS but these stream files have lines terminated with *LF versus *CRLF which is common to PC files. The native EDTF command is recommended for editting stream files in the green-screen environment BUT it has the usual green-screen limitations, similar to SEU. CODE would easily surpass EDTF if, and only if, it could be configured to output the right line termination characters. If this one of the options for CODE? I couldn't locate a way to do it but I know some of you CODE guru's have programmed it with REXX or JAVA to do many things. IBM Folks working in the PASE world have not used CODE/400 for editting and therefore couldn't answer this question. If any Toronto folks know the answer to this, or if there is a planned enhancement to CODE to allow it's use for editting UNIX (*LF terminated) files for the PASE environment, please advise. Thanks.
