For adding / substracting days to / from dates in PIC 9(8) format YYYYMMDD
two intrinsic functions are very useful:

INTEGER-OF-DATE: converts PIC 9(8) date into a number which represents
number of days after 31.12.1600

DATE-OF-INTEGER: converts number of days returned from the function
INTEGER-OF-DATE back into PIC 9(8) date YYYYMMDD
