I've been experiencing the same thing - lots of e-mails and some phone calls from recruiters looking for IBM i COBOL.  The timing couldn't be better, because I just learned yesterday that a project on which I was working no longer needs my effort, which has been more IBM i DBA and SQL performance but with some COBOL involvement as well.  It was a very interesting z/OS to IBM i conversion project, but it seems to have stalled internally, and they don't want to pay me to hang around with little to do until they sort out what direction they want to go, so Friday is the end of the line.  My COBOL isn't really ancient, but it's not as fresh as my RPG.  These last few months have helped to remove a little of the rust.

If you are an experienced COBOL developer on the IBM midrange, your ship

I'm on Dice.com, and my resume has a mention of COBOL in it, and I am
inundated with emails on a daily basis from recruiters looking for COBOL
devs. (And, just to ward off suitors, my COBOL experience is ancient.)

If you've got an itch, now may be a good time to look.
