Hi, I am new to this COBOL list. I am a old RPG programmer and have followed the Midrange L RPG list for a long time. I have taken a new job that uses COBOL so I signed up for this list. In the past 3+ weeks have yet to see a post on this list.
My question is:
If I post a question here is anyone going to see it or even reply to it?
Kerwin:
I do quite a lot of COBOL programming, but rarely have needed to ask
questions after 35+ years. However, I posted something similar a
year or so ago, noting the relative inactivity between the COBOL and
RPG lists.
I think it was Jon Paris (apologies if not) who provided the most
elegant response. He pointed out that there are COBOL forums and
resources all over the internet that are far more active than
anything at midrange.com because COBOL has much wider usage than
just in i5/OS (or OS/400or...).
In short, there is far less need to post here than the need for RPG
developers to post in its respective list. There are far fewer
places for RPG developers to find.
But there are plenty of answers here. And if the question involves
'COBOL under i5/OS', then there are very few better places if any.
Welcome to the list.
