Doh - I must stop mixing my languages! (and metaphors - but that's another problem!) Must be an old-age thing.

The information on "idexed" is fine - but as others have pointed out COBOL can't sort internal data - you have to call an API for that.

In COBOL I always found them more trouble than they were worth.

You should be able to simply remove the "Indexed by" clause and index
into the array any which way you want.
