what defines an "error" or "exception" for ILE COBOL?

List,

This is related to the discussion I started on the PROGRAM STATUS area. From
the ILE COBOL Reference:

The PROGRAM STATUS clause specifies a data item into which values from
the predefined program status structure are moved after an *error* occurs in
the program.

My question is: what specific conditions/statements/clauses satisfy this
definition of "error". I have searched the manuals but don't see any list of
items that would explain this.
