Claudia.

If you get error message MCH3601 'Pointer not set for location referenced'
, you probably already have an error in the OPEN statement for the file.
Check the joblog, look for 'Level check...' f. ex.

Just a tip.

[COBOL400-L] POINTER NOT SET TO VARIABLE REFERENCED

I got the problem "POINTER NOT SET TO VARIABLE REFERENCED" while running
a Cobol 400 program.

After numerous tries and changes to the my DDS and COBOL 400 file
definitions for my input file the system was not able to do the
processing and transfer the data to the link parameter variables for my
output file.

I used an existing file on the system and the Query 400 tool to format
my input data to map to the file layout. For example, I placed a one
(1) in a numeric field that I did not require and "A" in the character
data. I therefore ended up with a input data file that had both real
data and junk data. I then modified my program to read and use the
field that had my data. This solution did work.

Of course a future programmer will want to know what I was thinking to
have such weird variable names. Hey, it works....

Regards
