There is another textbook by Shelly Cashman on Programming Cobol on the AS/400 which may be what you are looking for. I believe that Mr. Cashman only spent 3 or 4 chapters out of the 25 or so chapters of the book mentioning Subfiles, DDS and all the other goodies that one would need to know in running COBOL programs in an AS400 environment. I didn't buy the book, because of its simplicity. When I went to the original bookstore where I saw this text, it was NO longer on the shelf. The staff told me that due to the unpopularity of COBOL, sales were sluggish and that's why it has to be discontinued. If you can get hold of this text, it may be well worth perusing that specific chapters which I was talking about. I will get let you know once I get the exact title, ISBN etc. Keep your fingers crossed Armando G. (If you need a decent search engine, try mysimon.com -- I use their Advanced Book Search page and usually find the results quite helpful. I don't have the exact title or ISBN, but there was a book about specifically about programming subfiles using COBOL/400. I don't even know if it's available anymore. (I've never seen that one, but I heard it is, or at least was, pretty good.) You can search the archives here for help and there's also a COBOL forum and some sample code at iSeries Network.
