I don't know CGI. I'm a server-side programmer who
develops reports for the human resources, payroll, and
accounting departments. Sometimes the users prefer to
have reports in electronic form rather than printed
hardcopy. Our current method for electronic delivery
is as PDF files via email. I was looking for a way to
deliver reports as htm files for display in browsers.

I don't have to use the SNDDST command, since the
CPYTOPCD command can place the htm file in a folder
available to users. But then I have to create
multiple folders and manage their authority to protect
access to sensitive reports. It's easier to control
report distribution with the SNDDST command.

Still, I'm open to CGI as an alternative. If I used
CGI, how would the htm document containing the report
get built? Would the CGI program itself generate the
report from database files? Or would it call another
COBOL program to generate the report? And how would I
ensure that only appropriate users access sensitive
reports?

Thanks,
Kelly Cookson
