You can launch Word from your program (or a CL program) using the
RUNRMTCMD command and have it open a template file. For example,
this will open a template under Win2K:

C:\>start "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Winword" "C:\Program
Files\
Microsoft Office\Templates\Memos\Elegant Memo.dot"

Now, as far as passing data to a template -- its likely that you
would need some sort of a PC program that understands OLE and
could communicate with Word. This is not possible from within
AS/400 Cobol.

Another option would be to build your own template on the AS/400
with the data elements pre-filled and send it to the PC. Its
doubtful anyone would want to attempt this with a proprietary
MS format :(
