I understand you're carving out the memory location where the "value" part starts according to the IBM documentation. After talking to a friend yesterday, we came to the conclusion, that this isn't the real memory location with the data area's content, but simply a pointer to another location where the content has been copied by the API.

Your code proofs that this is indeed the case.

The IBM provided documentation is ambiguous in this case.
