I was sarcastic .. it is not obvious..

"ev" is short for "eval"

the *
is "what the pointer is pointing to"

dataarea
Is the variable .. make sense ...

4)
:s
i wants to see it as as a string .. note you can use "x" here for
hexadecimal and "a" if data is in ascii /utf-8

5)
1000

then give me 1000 bytes, because i can't live with the default one the
debugger will provide .
