An application I am looking to port from Linux uses UNIX sockets to communicate between client program and server. To complicate matters it uses the socket option SO_CREDENTIALS so that the receiver is able to get the uid/gid of the sender and verify that the request is valid/authorized. However, the implementation of sendmsg/recvmsg/setsockopt for i7.3 does not support this GNU extension. So I am looking to replace this mechanism with some native implementation perhaps using call message queues or data queues or ?? An API that lets you get notified when a message is available instead of polling would be preferred (the socket mechanism uses select() to await incoming messages). I would also change the gid/uid mechanism to authorization lists.
