Hi Zvi,

QXXRTVDA is a C language port of the RTVDTAARA CL command. If you look at
the IBM Knowledge Center documentation for that command you will see that
it can signal several exception messages. If you want to handle these
exceptions you will need to add a direct monitor exception handler (#pragma
exception_handler) around the call to QXXRTVDA. You will have to decide
whether you want to monitor for all of the messages, a single message (like
the CPF1015 you are currently receiving), or a mixture of those two
approaches. You can find documentation on using the direct monitor
exception handlers in the IBM Knowledge Center under "Programming->ILE
Languages->C and C++->ILE C/C++ Programmer's Guide->Working with IBM i
Features->Handling Exceptions in a Program->Using ILE Exception Handlers->
Using ILE Direct Monitor Handlers". This path is from the IBM i 7.2
Knowledge Center, it might be slightly different if you use the Knowledge
Center documentation for an earlier release of IBM i.

Good luck!

Aaron

Subject: [C400-L] Check existence of data area in ILE C
Sent by: "C400-L" <c400-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

My ILE C program crashes in the line of QXXRTVDA if data does not exist.
Is there a way to avoid this crash ?
Someone has an example code for this?

The line is like this:
QXXRTVDA(dta, 41, 5, user_dta);
and I got program crash with the message:
"Data area DTA in QGPL not found."

If data area dta exists, it works fine.

Regards,

Zvi
