The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Boris,
As you noted, the function gethostname() returns hostname.domainname.
This is as defined by option 12 of the cfgtcp command per
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r3/index.jsp?topic=%2Fapis%2Fghostn.htm
For most purposes, the domain qualified host name works without having
to parse out the host name into a separate string. Unless it's an issue
with displaying the name for a user, I suggest creating a test program
or just using it in your application to see if the domain qualified name
works as needed. If not, it's generally easy to pase out the host name.
