Zvi,

Any chance you can get by with the gcc compiler (4.0.0 I think) from the Young i Professionals web site has instructions and tooling available to install rpm packages on IBM i from the AIX Toolbox for Linux site. One of the packages available is the gcc compiler. See here for details:

Eric, Walt,

I need relatively newer than gcc 4.1.1 that can be just copied from tar file simply to /usr/local without any operation.
I tried to install the gcc 4.6.0 compiler from gcc-cpp-4.6.0-1.aix5.2.ppc.rpm by rpm utility,
but I got messages about dependencies.
rpm -Uvh --force gcc-cpp-4.6.0-1.aix5.2.ppc.rpm

Can I find a simple newer version of gcc to be copied to /usr/local without all those annoying steps ?

Walt,

Thanks for the reference. I did find this reference with the Wiki
documentation earlier and found this exceedingly helpful.

I appreciate your response.

Erick

One is for AIX, one for the System p, and one for the Open Source
Packages. The likely candidate is Bull's freeware and shareware for
AIX. Is this compatible for the IBM i at V6R1M0 within AIX? If not,
is there a binary available elsewhere?
