Couple of small things I forgot:

This really needs a cast to be proper:
s1 = (char) malloc (sizeofbuffer * sizeof(char));
The thing I forgot to mention is that you must remember to free the
allocated memory when you are done with it. If you don't, you'll have a
"memory leak" in your program - memory that is allocated but unreachable
by any program code. So free it like this:
free (s1);
