We created a query that is ran daily to display any locations that have a
negative inventory. It doesn't happen often but when it does we know
immediately and can typically pinpoint the process that made it go negative
which aides in the employee training process.

Inventory Accuracy

Hi Kobie,
Your client has an inventory accuracy problem, not a BPCS configuration
challenge. A negative balance merits an immediate physical count of the item
and it wouldn't be a bad idea to also count items closely related to the
problem code via BOM structure(s). If it were even possible to turn off
transactions, you'd introduce a wide variety of potential collateral damage
to customer service and factory productivity. Better to just get out on the
floor and do a shop-wide + all applicable warehouse count. Get the
quantities right and then re-run MRP.
Your client isn't the first one to have a negative inventory quantity. We've
found that employee training on inventory accuracy is the Rx for prospective
improvement. Here is a discussion about inventory accuracy training topics,
including the connection with reliability theory:

Subject: [BPCS-L] BPCS V4.5CD / ERP Lx - Minimum Inventory Levels.
We have a Clients running from BPCS V4.5CD up to ERP Lx (BPCS V8.3.04) and
the Client running 4.5CD asked if there are any setting to stop inventory
transactions if the Stock On-hand goes into a Negative.
I have looked in Inventory Management / System Parameters / Facility and
Warehouse Management, but could not found any settings, any ideas?
Kind Regards,
